Couples & Individual Therapy in Philadelphia
I’ve been a therapist for nearly twenty years. Over that time, my work has deepened alongside my training, my curiosity, and my own development as a person. I offer couples therapy and individual therapy in Philadelphia, working with people who feel caught in patterns that are difficult to name, interrupt, or change on their own.
Therapy as a Relational Process
I understand therapy as a relational and experiential process, rather than a set of techniques or solutions.
Therapy can offer the experience of being seen and having one’s internal world attended to with care, curiosity, and precision. In our work, we pay attention not only to what you think about your life, but to how you experience it in real time - emotionally, relationally, and somatically.
The patterns that organize your relationships often become visible within the therapeutic relationship itself. This allows us to examine them together, not as abstractions, but as lived experience.
I sometimes think that the best training I’ve had to be a couples therapist is being in a long marriage and raising kidMarriage is sometimes really hard. People are sometimes difficult or unreasonable. You are also not so easy to deal with. Not everything must be said. The work of marriage is rupture and repair.
Clinical Approach
My work is grounded in psychodynamic, attachment-based, and relational therapy, and informed by training in Gestalt therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).
I am interested in how early relational experiences continue to organize present-day expectations, perceptions, and responses. At the same time, I see the therapeutic relationship as an active site of change—where new relational experiences can be felt, not only understood.
This dual focus on insight and experience allows for shifts that are both intellectually meaningful and emotionally rich.
Collaboration, Autonomy, and Care
I approach therapy as a collaborative process, grounded in respect for each person’s autonomy and complexity.
Many of the individuals and couples I work with are also engaged with psychiatrists or other providers. When helpful, I collaborate to support continuity and depth of care.
At the center of my work is a commitment to careful listening, attunement, and the belief that meaningful change unfolds over time, in relationship.
