Carrie Askin, LCSW

I’ve been a therapist for nearly twenty years. My work has continued to grow and evolve alongside my training, curiosities, and my own development as a person. Over the years, I have studied and trained in Gestalt therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and psychodynamic and attachment-based approaches. My work is grounded in theory and informed by my professional and personal experiences. While therapist and client experiences may not be the same, therapy is a real relationship, and meaningful work depends on the therapist’s insight into their own wounds, defenses, and strengths.

I’m drawn to therapy as a living, relational process. I believe deeply in the possibility of growth and change, and I continue to invest in my own development—both as a person and as a clinician—so that I can meet my clients with thoughtfulness, presence, and care.

Collaboration is central to how I work. Many of the individuals and couples I see are also supported by other therapists or psychiatrists. Whenever possible I work as part of a thoughtful coordinated team to support the client.

Continuing education, supervision, and personal reflection are essential parts of my professional life and remain a source of inspiration and fulfillment. I participate in ongoing training and consultation and also offer supervision to other therapists, which I experience as a meaningful and sustaining part of my work.

Outside the office I’m usually cooking, reading novels, or absorbed in whatever hobby I’ve decided to learn next- lately ceramics, previously quilting, sewing, rowing, and glass blowing. I live with my spouse, three overly confident cats, and a beloved elderly dog and I’m the parent of two young adults.
